The city was established on the Fourth of July, 1867. Civic leaders put together the first Cheyenne Frontier Days in less than three weeks. Cheyenne, population 62,448, is the largest city in Wyoming. Wyoming petitioned for statehood seven times before it was finally named the 44th state in 1890.
