Is Memphis worth visiting?

For many visitors, Graceland alone is enough reason to make the trip to Memphis, and I can appreciate that because it is a really good attraction and very well run. Even if you have no interest in The King from a fandom or music prospective, it is well worth visiting, and simply one of the nation’s marquee attractions.

Is Memphis a bad place to visit?

It’s not a secret that Memphis has a fairly high crime rate compared to other US cities. It’s largely concentrated in a few areas of town, but there are definitely parts of Memphis you should avoid if you are a tourist. The downtown area, especially around Beale Street, is very busy and heavily patrolled.

Is Memphis safe for tourists?

Memphis is generally a safe city for tourists. You’ll notice a lot of police presence downtown (especially around Beale Street) in both the day and night, but travelers should still exercise caution in tourist areas, which are known to have a high concentration of panhandlers.

Personally I think at least 3 days are needed for Memphis but it’s based on what you want to do & see. Graceland will take most of your day then you have the Civil Rights Museum which will take at least a few hours followed by the other Music museums which could take a couple of hours each.

For a broad overview of downtown Nashville and the immediate surrounding, we typically recommend 2 or 3 full days, depending on your pace as a traveler. If you plan to visit sites outside of downtown, i.e. Belle Meade Plantation, Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage or the town of Franklin, we recommend 4-5 full days.
