Is Downtown Atlanta safe? During the daytime downtown Atlanta can be a safe place to visit, however we do not recommend that you walk around downtown at night. It is not well populated and there is not much to do. Many residents of the city say it is dead after dark and has poor food, nightlife, and shopping options.

Is staying in downtown Atlanta safe?

Like most big cities, downtown Atlanta is more walkable and safer during daytime hours. But as night falls, it becomes more important to keep an eye on your surroundings and avoid dangerous areas. Downtown Atlanta has an overall crime rate which is 188% higher than the national average.
