Grand Canyon transforms into winter wonderland. We may only be approaching Thanksgiving, but it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Grand Canyon. Snow blanketed the famed Arizona, national park on Thursday.

Has the Grand Canyon ever had snow?

The North Rim receives the heaviest snowfall, averaging 142” per year, with a record snowfall of 272.8” (almost 23 feet) in 1978. The South Rim averages 58” of snow, and Phantom Ranch less than 1”.

The first snowfall of winter for Grand Canyon Village usually arrives in November, but can land as early as October. Once every three or four years, the Village has no snow for November. The season’s last snowfall typically happens anytime from March to May.
