Hilton Head Island’s public beaches offer lifeguards and rentals during the official beach season from April 1st through September 30th.This Hilton Head Island public beach is also a great place for swimming, boogie boarding and playing in the waves.

But unfortunately, beach time can be as dangerous as it is fun — particularly for swimmers making their way through the waves. According to Hilton Head Beach Services Director Mike Wagner, more than 20 people are rescued from near-drownings every year on Hilton Head.
