It is illegal to build a fire or use a propane-fired grill or other cooker on the beach. Discharging fireworks is illegal within the city limits of all Grand Strand municipalities. Disposing of litter or solid waste is illegal on public and private property.

Unlike its bonfire-friendly neighbor to the north, South Carolina has some pretty strict laws prohibiting fires on its beaches. That doesn’t mean your vacation will be without, though, because we’ve found five beaches on the South Carolina coast that allow visitors and residents alike to have bonfires.

  3. Fire logs. if you don’t have any, you can usually find them at a hardware store, or at grocery stores near the beach.
  4. BBQ lighter fluid.
  5. Newspaper.
  6. Kindling or small sticks.

Fires are permitted in appropriate pits only. No fires are allowed in the sand. Gas, propane or electric grills allowed on the sand but must be 18” off the ground.
