Are there great white sharks near Cancun?

Yes there are sharks, but you’d be lucky to see one. They mostly hang around the deeper areas or near the reefs. There aren’t any great whites or anything here, bull sharks are about the only ones that might “taste” you, but I haven’t heard of it happening since I’ve lived here.

I would say that yes Cancun is generally Safe for a Person Traveling alone, just use common sense and you should have no problem, I do suggest that you maybe get aquainted with other People from your Hotel and maybe go to bars or clubs in a group more comfortable that way IMO.
