Bilbao is a small town, very (VERY) safe by all means. You´d be surprised. Kids run freely on the streets and women don´t take any extra protection or anything. You will not be any time in any dangerous areas (if one, a small part of San FRancisco neighbourhood, which may be a couple of blocks).
