Can you visit Edinburgh Castle for free?

Every year Historic Scotland holds a Doors Open Day that allows you to visit Edinburgh Castle for free. This year that day falls rather symbolically on St Andrew’s Day (30th November).

Can you walk around Edinburgh Castle without paying?

Definitely worth the money, only wish we scheduled more time. This is the clear highlight of Edinburgh and shouldn’t be missed on a visit of any length. It is a bit pricey to get in but there are many, many areas to check out and some surprises (cemetery for soldiers dogs, who knew?).
