Does Edinburgh Zoo have flamingos?
There is a large flock of Chilean flamingos here at Edinburgh Zoo. Our eldest flamingos were born in 1961 while the youngest individual hatched in 2016. There are five Asiatic lions here at Edinburgh Zoo -Jayendra, Roberta, Mitaali, Keshari and Kushanu. Jayendra, or Jay our male, was born in 2010 and moved here in 2012 from Bristol Zoo, Roberta, our female, was born in 2013 and arrived in 2014 from a zoo in Germany.

Mercedes was captured after being rescued from being shot in Canada in 1984 and added to the animal collection at Edinburgh Zoo. She was relocated to the park at Kincraig in 2009.A two-year-old male polar bear called Walker was introduced to Mercedes’s enclosure in November 2010.

Giant panda cubs are raised by their mothers and it would be rare for them to come into contact with their fathers in the wild. Outside of raising cubs, they are naturally solitary animals which is why Tian Tian and Yang Guang live apart at the zoo.
