On 9 May 1945, Soviet troops occupied the Danish island of Bornholm, to fight the German soldiers. On 5 April 1946, the Soviet soldiers left Bornholm. After the assault on the Soviet Union, Operation Barbarossa, Denmark joined the Anti-Comintern Pact, and the Communist Party was banned in Denmark.
