Can you bring alcohol to Bonaire?

The following items may be imported into Bonaire by travellers over 17 years of age (tobacco products) or over 18 years of age (alcohol) without incurring customs duty: 200 cigarettes or 50 cigarillos or 25 cigars or 125g of tobacco.

Can I bring food to Bonaire?

Thanks. You can certanly bring food to Bonaire but given the number of grocery stores and markets it is not really necessary. Alcohol is available at several places on the island and prices are not unreasonable.

What is the legal drinking age in Bonaire?

The legal drinking age on Bonaire is 18 for both beer and other alcohol. The legal age for gambling in a casino is 21. The Dutch Caribbean has its own drug laws which are not the same as Holland. Our drug laws are not lenient.

Can you take shells from Bonaire?

Do not attempt to take shells, corals, sand etc off-island. It is forbidden by law and the airport is thoroughly checking bags for these items upon departure.

Is Bonaire part of Schengen?

Do you tip in Bonaire?

The Dutch do not tip as a general rule, and Bonaire restaurants do not expect tips from Dutch customers. If there is no line for the tip on the bill, just round up and leave some change on the table. If the service is exceptional, leave a cash tip.

Most folks put on proper dry clothes for dinner – or when going into town at any time – but it’s still quite casual. Shorts and T-shirts are fine, except at the fanciest restaurants. A sundress provides maximum versatility and comfort for women.
