Today, as long as you are born and live in Malaysia you can call yourself a true Malaysian. After all, history does not do much in classifying you as Malaysian, it’s the culture, the upbringing and beliefs that make you Malaysian.

Although citizens make up the majority of Malaysians, non-citizen residents and overseas Malaysians may also claim a Malaysian identity.
