In April 2014, the population of Tunisia stood at 10,982,754, only 0.5 percent of whom were foreign immigrants according to the country’s sixth census. First-generation, Tunisia-born migrants residing abroad stood at around 543,000, of whom 81 percent were to be found in Europe that year.
