Items Not Allowed in Mexico:

  • Guns or ammunition.
  • Pepper spray.
  • Lethal knives and machetes (anything over 8” is not allowed)
  • Live predator fish.
  • Totoaba fish (fresh or frozen)
  • Turtle eggs.
  • Poppy seeds or flour of poppy seeds.
  • Marijuana, medicinal marijuana, marijuana products, marijuana seeds or spores, or marijuana extracts.

  • Plants and flowers.
  • Seeds or materials of vegetable origin.
  • Medicine other than that for personal use.

Can you take food into Mexico?

As a rule of thumb you are allowed to bring into Mexico whatever you need for the time period you will be staying in Mexico. You are not allowed to bring food, fruits and/or products that are not “company” packed and sealed.You are allowed to bring enough medicine for the time period you will be in Mexico.

What food items can I take to Mexico?

You are permitted to bring the following food items into Mexico

  • Shelled almonds.
  • Hazelnuts without shell.
  • Roasted coffee.
  • Pelleted cereals.
  • Spices (vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, mace, amoms, cardamoms, anise, coriander, fennel,
  • ginger, saffron, turmeric, thyme, bay leaves, curry, etc.)
  • Dried fruits (seedless)

What do you have to declare at Mexico Customs?

If you are carrying more than USD$10,000, or its equivalent in other currencies, in cash, checks, money orders or any other monetary instrument, or a combination of them, you must declare the amount exceeding USD$10,000. You will not have to pay duties or taxes, but you must declare it on the Customs Declaration form.

Prohibited products: Food: fresh cheeses, farm raised chicken, live/raw/dried crustaceans, fresh meat of any kind, homemade or artisanal food products, unpackaged sandwiches/hamburgers/pizza etc. with meat or lactose products.

Cooked eggs and foods such as breakfast tacos, egg plates and hard boiled eggs are prohibited. The regulations governing meat and meat products are stringent. You may not import fresh, dried or canned meats or meat products or foods that have been prepared with meat.

Carrying any firearm, or even a single cartridge of ammunition, into Mexico, without the proper permits, is illegal and carries prison sentence penalties up to a 30 years. A knife or pocketknife, carried on your person in Mexico, is also illegal, and has a prison sentence of up to five years.

Rule 3.2. 3(X) – Passengers 18 years of age and older can bring a maximum of 10 packs of cigarettes, 25 cigars, or 200 grams of tobacco; up to 3 liters of alcoholic beverages and 6 liters of wine. By the way, six cans of smokeless tobacco weighs roughly 200 grams.

Can I take gifts to Mexico?

Can I bring tacos from Mexico?

Tamales, tacos, pastries, and grains may not be a serious issue as you return from Mexico. The primary concern will be those items that could contaminate U.S. crops. Inspectors at the border may identify such issues on produce if you bring it back and fail to declare it, which could also result in fines.

Can I bring sandwiches across the border?

Many prepared foods that are unopened and commercially labeled are admissible (excluding meats and meat products). You may bring bakery items and most cheeses into the United States. As a general rule, condiments, vinegars, oils, packaged spices, honey, maple syrup, coffee, fish, tea, and baby formula are admissible.

Can I bring bread into the US?

The following are generally admissible:
Bread, cookies, crackers, cakes, granola bars, cereal and other baked and processed products. Candy and chocolate. Cheese – Solid cheese that does not contain meat are admissible.

Can you eat fruit in Mexico?

I eat raw fruits and vegetables everytime I travel to Mexico and have never had a problem the water is purified so you should be fine. Make sure you drink plenty of bottled water, wash hands frequently, don’t over do it on anytype of food, and watch alchol intake and you should be fine. Enjoy!

Is it OK to drink coffee in Mexico?

All three processes kill bacteria, or inhibit its growth. Coffee, hot tea, canned soda and juice, beer, wine and alcohol are all a safe bet. Phew!
