In Hawaii, we have two different kinds of millipedes– the smaller black millipedes, and the reddish brown larger millipedes.Millipedes live in damp moist areas these include moist areas of the yard including rock fill areas, groundcover, and mulch.

Here in Hawaii, we have three kinds of centipedes: Scolopendra, Lethobius, and Mecistocephalus. The good news is that the Scolopendra is the only one that bites; the other two are common and harmless.
