It is illegal to take any crab by spearfishing; only trap, baited line, and net gear may be used [DLNR 2002]. In Hilo Harbor of the Big Island, there is a daily bag limit of 3 Samoan crabs [DLNR 2002], but otherwise no bag limits are in place for any Hawaiian crab in any area [Kushima, 2003].
