Australia is a founding member of the United Nations and has consistently supported the UN’s role in world affairs since this time. Australia was an active participant at the 1945 San Francisco Conference, during which the UN Charter was negotiated.Australia also provides significant financial support to the UN.

Australia has been integrally involved in global efforts to build and restore peace for over 70 years. We have provided personnel to 62 UN and other multilateral peace and security operations since 1947. We remain a strong supporter of UN peacekeeping and are currently the 11th largest financial contributor.
