Roman Catholicism is the state religion, but the government generally upholds people’s religious freedom in practice. An study made by the University of Costa Rica in 2021 showed that 47% of Costa Ricans were Roman Catholics, 27% non-religious, 19% Evangelical Christians and 1% Traditional Protestants.
