Is Dublin sketchy?

Dublin is a relatively safe city when compared to other European cities. People in Ireland tend to have a misconception about the perceived “roughness” of Dublin, as you’re far more likely to hear about a crime in Dublin than anywhere else on the national news.

Are there bad areas in Dublin?

Perhaps surprisingly, Pearse Street Garda station in Dublin’s south inner city is at the centre of Ireland’s most crime-ridden district. Between 2003 and 2019, it had the highest number of criminal incidents and the small area around the station is visible too if you zoom into the Deliveroo map (it’s in red).

London, on the other hand, gives off more of a big city feel.London is for you if you are more into the big city and exploring the arts and culture. But if you are more into basking in an amazing local hospitality, it should be Dublin for you.

Clontarf is lovely and is quite an upmarket suburb, should be perfectly safe. However, no matter where you are staying or visiting you should always remember your street smarts and use common sense with regard to your safety as I’m sure you will. Have a lovely time.

Crime in Tallaght is certainly no worse than any other large centre of population and is well policed. As apparent from recent events closer to Dublin city it might even be preferable to stay outside of an increasingly violent Dublin city.

Local councillor William Lavelle said people in the Lucan and Clondalkin areas are “shocked and annoyed” at the level of violent crime there in recent months.It’s an affront to the whole of society to have that level of violence used against people.
