Importation and exportation of wild animals or their products (trophy or meat) is prohibited unless accompanied by an export permit issued by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, P.O. 131, Gaborone, Botswana. These may be imported subject to plant health restrictions.

What food can you take into Botswana?

In general you can take tinned food, things like cereals and similar, and UHT products through the border. You cannot take fresh meat, biltong, cheeses, fish, diary products, fresh fruit and sometimes vegetables through.

Due to the FMD (Foot and Mouth Disease) outbreak in Limpopo, no meat may cross the border from South Africa to Namibia or Botswana. This regulation includes biltong, animal hides, dairy products and eggs. At some of the border posts you might even find they confiscate fruit and vegetables.
