Note that swimming is strictly prohibited at the Seven Pools, but not along the Pipiwai Trail. Be on the lookout for wet rocks!

One of the easiest ways to access the pools is via the Pipiwai Trail. This 1.8-mile route offers one of the best hikes in East Maui. Winding along a string of dramatic pools and waterfalls, you’ll encounter a giant Banyan tree, dense bamboo forests, and a grove of mountain apple trees.

Are the Seven Sacred Pools Open 2021?

Is the Pipiwai Trail worth it?

Considering the variety of scenery and maintenance of the pathway, Pipiwai Trail is often hailed as one of the best hikes on Maui. The Pipiwai Trail is one of the last places of interest on the Road to Hana, but it’s one stop, in our opinion, that is worth it.

Is the Pipiwai Trail difficult?

There are many beautiful things to see including a huge banyan tree and incredible bamboo forest. Also, at the end is a gorgeous waterfall, with warning signs stopping you from getting too close. This is a difficult hike, slippery in places and 99% rough, uneven ground.

Can you swim Waimoku Falls?

Along the way about half a mile (800 m) into the trail, there is another waterfall, Makahiku Falls, which is also beautiful, even though it is “only” a 185-foot (56 m) cascade. Swimming in the small pool below Waimoku Falls is not possible since it is too shallow.
