Are there snakes on St. Martin?

Fortunately, there are very few harmful species in Saint Martin / Sint Maarten. There are no snakes, and just a few common spiders like the ones you would typically find in Europe. Depending on your location and the rain, the mosquitoes can be a nuisance.

Is it safe to swim in St. Maarten?

The beach itself is protected, with shallow waters ideal for families. You can swim here or else take a hike for 1 1/2 hours north over a hill and down to one of the island’s most pristine beaches, Baie de Petites Cayes. This is the most idyllic spot on St. Martin for a picnic.
