Statewide, California’s current drought is the most severe since 1976-77. San Jose received only 5.33 inches of rain from July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021, about one third of normal.They are still about 22 feet above their lowest point during the last drought, in 2014, but continue to trend downward.

Where does San Jose Water’s supply come from? This water is pumped from over 100 wells that draw water from the Santa Clara Groundwater Basin. Groundwater accounts for approximately 40% of our supply. Imported surface water is provided by the Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD ), our wholesale supplier.
