Naval Academy students are midshipmen on active duty in the U.S. Navy. They attend the academy for four years, graduating with bachelor of science degrees and commissions as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps. Naval Academy graduates serve at least five years in the Navy or Marine Corps.
Dating at the Naval Academy is not like dating at other universities. There are several obstacles including that there are three male midshipmen for every female, all romantic acts are no-nos on the academy yard and everyone is undergoing intense academic and physical training to become a naval officer.
Historically, about 20 percent of midshipmen drop out.
You are required to receive a nomination from a nominating authority in order to attend the Naval Academy. The majority of midshipmen receive their nominations through Congress – either a State Senator or their local Congressional Representative.
