Very strong hurricane made landfall just south of Charleston near high tide producing severe storm surge flooding, much property/crop/livestock damage and at least 95 deaths. It is likely the worst storm to ever hit Charleston. The storm occurred around the transition from the Julian to Gregorian calendars.
